Firefighters Donate Blood

23 May 2011

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) through the Personnel Welfare Section – Morale Benefits Division joins the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) in its mission to give and donate blood to save other people’s lives.

Last May 10, 2011, a blood donation activity was conducted at the BFP-NHQ Conference Room in Quezon City. Personnel from the BFP National Headquarters and National Capital Region, and some civilians volunteered to donate certain volume of their blood.

After thorough screening, sixty five (65) donors qualified for the blood-letting. Each donor gives 1 bag of blood which is equivalent to 450 cc. A total of 29,250 cc of blood was gathered from the activity. The blood collected was given to the Philippine National Red Cross for proper distribution to the possible beneficiaries.

According to PNRC, they need more blood today considering the increasing number of patients who are in need of blood transfusion due to blood-related diseases, maternal emergencies and road accidents.

The Bureau of Fire of Protection, as one of the agencies mandated to protect other people’s lives, considers blood donation as one way of realizing its mission of providing life-saving services to the public. For this reason, the bureau and its personnel continue to support blood-letting and other related activities to further reach out to the community. More and more personnel of the bureau are participating in blood donation activities now, knowing its advantages and knowing it can provide relief to one’s life.
