25th EDSA Anniversary Celebration Commemorated

With the whole nation commemorating this year’s 25th anniversary of the EDSA revolution, the Bureau of Fire Protection participated in the event’s activities last February 25, 2011 at the EDSA People Power Monument.
A whole day program was presented focusing on the theme, “EDSA 25: Pilipino Ako. Ako ang Lakas ng Pagbabago.” A flag raising ceremony and wreath laying activity marked the opening of the program at 8:00 in the morning. It was followed by the unveiling of His Excellency Cardinal Sin’s monument.
Personnel of different government agencies, private and civic organizations as well as students from different schools/ universities attended the event. Other highlighted activities were the unveiling of the marker for Former President Corazon Aquino at the POEA and the Boodle Lunch along the EDSA highway.
North bound lane of EDSA was closed for a day-long program which also includes the Salubungan Activity which started at 3:45 p.m. from Camp Crame to EDSA People Power Monument where thousands of people participated. The Salubungan is the reenactment of the EDSA revolution in 1986, the most remarkable revolution in the Philippine history.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) dispatched at least 150 personnel headed by some of its key officers to join the celebration and at the same time, to provide safety measures in the area.//
