Firefighter dies from vehicular accident

07 February 2011

After less than a month, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is again in grief for losing another personnel, FO1 Loel M Bucog who died last May 16, 2001 due to a vehicular accident.

The said BFP personnel met his untimely death while on his way back home riding a motorcycle. He was traveling at the national highway of Barrio 8 in Koronadal City going to the Municipality of Tupi, South Cotabato when he accidentally bumped a Toyota pick-up. Unfortunate enough, he was again struck by a motorcycle running after him, while he was still lying on the road, which caused him and the other rider seriously injured.

FO1 Bucog was brought to the hospital but declared dead on arrival.

The young firefighter was assigned at Polomolok Fire Station in South Cotabato, Region 12. He was absorbed in the fire service just last year, July 5 and was about to take the Fire Basic Recruit Course. Like FO1 Gutierrez who died last month, Bucog was just about to start a life in his chosen profession but it ended very soon.

Though his time in the service was limited, BFP will give FO1 Bucog due recognition for performing his duties as firefighter and public servant. The bureau is now processing the death benefits for his bereaved family.

With his loss, the BFP is extending its deep sympathy to his family, relatives and friends.//
