BFP Recognizes the late FO1 Roy Gutierrez

11 May 2011

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is in grief for losing another personnel, FO1 Roy Gutierrez who died last April 27, 2001. FO1 Gutierrez was assigned at Calatagan Fire Station in Batangas during his untimely death due to vehicular accident. He was one of the firefighters who were supposed to respond to a fire incident in Barangay Talisay, Batangas but unfortunately, while on their way, the driver lost control of the fire truck causing it to bump and tumble over an Isuzu Ford Ranger Pick-up.

Gutierrez together with the driver of the fire truck, FO1 Ruel Tanguibao, was rushed to the hospital. Tanguibao suffered injuries while the 22-year-old firefighter did not survive.

The newly recruit firefighter was absorbed in the service last September 8, 2009, and he had just finished the Fire Basic Recruit Course last year. Just like any other young man his age, Gutierrez was just about to start a life in his chosen profession but it ended very soon.

Though his time in the service was limited, FO1 Gutierrez had shown dedication and righteously performed his role as a public servant by risking his life and responding to the call of duty.

The BFP has given FO1 Gutierrez the “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” in recognition of his bravery during the incident. The bureau is now processing the death benefits for his bereaved family. The special financial assistance which is equivalent to his 6 month-salary has already been given that very night of which the incident happened.

With his loss, the BFP is extending its deep sympathy to his family, relatives and friends.//
