Fire Safety Advocates Recognized in the
2011 Fire Prevention Month Culminating Ceremony

To remarkably end this year’s fire prevention month celebration, the Bureau of fire Protection held its 45th Fire Prevention Month Culminating Ceremony on March 31, 2011 at the BFP National Headquarters in Quezon City through a short program where the Chair of the Civil Service Commission, Hon. FRANCISCO T. DUQUE III graced the event as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
The culminating ceremony primarily gave recognition to fire safety advocates who always extend their support to the BFP’s campaigns and programs. CSC Chair Duque led the awarding of recognition to Outstanding Local Chief Executives (LCEs) and private organizations, assisted by the BFP Chief, DIR ROLANDO M BANDILLA JR. The recognition was conferred to 35 LCEs from across the country; two volunteer fire brigades including Tabaco-Chinese Filipino Volunteer Fire Brigade, Inc. of Tabaco City, Albay and Triskellion Rescue and Emergency Assistance Team of Batangas City; Philippine National Red Cross for a non-governmental organization; and Safety Organization of the Philippines, Inc. (SOPI), Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation and Petron Corporation for special awards.
The winners of the different Fire Prevention Competitions were also given prizes by BFP Chief Directorial Staff CSUPT RODRIGO ABRAZALDO and Director for Fire Safety and Prevention CSUPT DANILO R BARADI. For poster making contest, Jerrika C. Shi of St. Jude Catholic High School (NCR) won 1st place, Daniel Sheen B. Yanuario (Region 8) won the 2nd place and Wesley Jelo C. Almazar of Ramon Magsaysay High School (NCR) got the 3rd place. In photo contest, Rejina Jane Tabajonda (Region 3) won 1st place, while entries of Preslou Glory Genovate (Region 6) and Jeane Renee T. Nubla (NCR) got the 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. The drawing contest was dominated by Artgiveson C. Arreglado of Sto. Niño SPED Center (Region 8), Trisha Co Reyes of St. Stephen’s High School (NCR) placed 2nd and Jamia Mei Tolentino of St. Stephen's High School (NCR) placed 3rd. Krischelle Marie I. Omoy of Sto. Niño SPED Center (Region 8) excelled in the essay writing contest – elementary level. Jewel Mae S. Cadiz of Cabarroguis Central School (Region 2) placed 2nd and Audrey Kristen R. Dela Vega of San Fernando Elementary School (Region 3) placed 3rd. In high school level, Danica S. Magno of Zeferino Arroyo High School (Region 5) won 1st place, Ma. Cecilia Frias of Mandurriao National High School (Region 6) won 2nd place and Ena Bernadine V. Padernga of Fatima College of Camiguin (Region 10),3rd place.
An audio-visual presentation entitled “BFP…Beyond Firefighting” was also viewed in the occasion.
In his short message, Chairman Duque mentioned some BFP personnel who have shown gallantry and heroic deeds in performing their duties. He further encouraged the BFP to submit nominees to the national awards such as the Lingkod ng Bayan Award.
Firefighters work in the service of their fellowmen, saving lives and protecting properties from the destruction of fire. Duque believes that firefighting is indeed a noble profession, and that firefighters are worth commendable.//
