BFP National Headquarters promotes a
smoke-free workplace

18 August 2011

Health is a big deal for government employees especially for our firefighters who need physical and mental strength to perform their duties efficiently. To protect and to contribute to the health and well-being of its employees, the Bureau of fire Protection (BFP) promotes a smoke-free workplace in the National Headquarters pursuant to Civil Service Commission (CSC) Memorandum Circular No.17,s.2009, wherein smoking is prohibited in all of the enclosed areas within the worksites.

During its traditional Monday flag raising ceremony last August 15, 2011, BFP Director for Personnel SUPT MARIA SOFIA MENDOZA announced the implementation of the said Memorandum Circular to take effect in the BFP National Headquarters as well as to Regional Offices.

The areas included in the smoking prohibitions are common work areas, conference and meeting rooms, offices, hallways, stairs, restrooms, government vehicles, and all other enclosed facilities.

According to SUPT MENDOZA, they will designate an open space as smoking area for those who can hardly refrain themselves from smoking. ‘No smoking’ signs and posters regarding health hazards of smoking will also be posted at the NHQ offices.

BFP personnel were reminded to strictly observe the ‘No smoking’ policy. Anyone who will violate the said Memorandum Circular will be reprimanded and will result in disciplinary action.
‘No smoking’ in BFP-NHQ offices exempts no one. This policy hopes to instill discipline over its employees to promote a healthy workplace and efficient public service.//
